TECHNICAL ENGLISH II

Dear all

Welcome to the first e-learning session. I´m sure you´ve made yourself familiar with the content in Teams and have read the respective pages on our website (Innovation Project, Grammar and Language Focus) and have also found a partner / topic for your innovation project.

For E-Learning Task 1.1, you can complete grammar exercises online (https://b.socrative.com/login/student/ room name: TKITVWRP). The grammar exercises are worth 10 participation points.

If you want to practise your persuasion skills, please go to Session 1 – Language Focus on our website, scroll down and use one of the language techniques to sell an innovative product to potential dragons. Write 1-2 sentences. You can earn 5 points for every persuasive entry (please also say which technique you´ve used). This is e-learning task 1.2. You can post e-learning task 1.2 here or in your MS Teams Channel.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a good day!

Kind regards

    Hey Dagmar,

Here are two sentences for task 1.2:

    Rhetorical question:
Do you really want to miss this unique opportunity to invest in our product?

    Anecdote:
I remember when I read my first book. It was a lot more tiring than when my mother read it to me. What if you could have a device that would read it back to you?

    Kind regards,
    Dominique

    1. We have all been in difficult emotional situations at one point in our lives. With InstaHelp we provide psychological help via the internet, fast and uncomplicated.

    Anecdote
    1. Have you ever been in the situation where you are waiting out in the rain for the next bus, but it just won’t come? With Uber this will never again happen to you!

When I think about pizza, I want to eat a Margheritha immediately. Now I can have a Margheritha at home with the mini PizzaOven. It really help me to cook a perfect pizza! (Anectode)

Haven´t we all children, who throw their plates on the floor while eating? A silicon place mat is the solution. It sticks to a table very well, easy to clean and harder for our kids to throw! (Inclusive language)

Here are two sentences for task 1.2:

    Rhetorical question:
Do you really want to miss this unique opportunity to invest in our product? YES, I LIKE IT HOW YOU´VE USED THE WORDS "REALLY" AND "UNIQUE" TO STRESS YOUR SENTENCE.

    Anecdote:
I remember when I read my first book. It was a lot more tiring than when my mother read it to me. What if you could have a device that would read it back to you? GOOD!

    WELL DONE!

    Inclusive language
    1. We have all been in difficult emotional situations at one point in our lives. With InstaHelp we provide psychological help via the internet, fast and uncomplicated. VERY NICE! IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A BIT MORE NATURAL TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE "STRAIGHTFORWARD" OR "QUICK AND EASY" INSTEAD OF "UNCOMPLICATED" ...

    Anecdote
    1. Have you ever been in the situation where you are waiting out in the rain for the next bus, but it just won’t come? With Uber this will never again happen to you! THIS IS MORE OF A RHETORICAL QUESTION ... IF YOU WANT TO TURN IT INTO AN ANECDOTE, TELL YOUR AUDIENCE ABOUT YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES ...

    GOOD!

When I think about pizza, I want to eat a Margherit(h)a immediately. Now I can have a Margherit(h)a at home with the mini PizzaOven. It really help me to cook a perfect pizza! (Anectode) YOU`RE MIXING THINGS UP A BIT, I THINK ... I THINK TO TURN THIS INTO AN ANECDOTE, YOU HAVE TO USE THE PAST TENSE. SOME TIME AGO, WHENEVER I THOUGHT ABOUT PIZZA I ALWAYS HAD TO LEAVE THE HOUSE TO GO TO THE LOCAL RESTAURANT TO GET ONE. OR WAIT FOR HOURS FOR A PIZZA MARGHERITA TO BE DELIVERED. BUT THIS HAS CHANGED! THE MINI PIZZAOVEN HELPS ME ... WITHIN SECONDS ... IT´S STILL NOT PERFECT, BUT CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

Haven´t (DON´T WE ALL HAVE) we all children, who throw their plates on the floor while eating? A silicon place mat is the solution. It sticks to a table very well, IS easy to clean and harder for our kids to throw! (Inclusive language) WELL DONE!

    Hi Dagmar,

Anecdote: In summer, when garbage cans with organic waste increasingly attract flies' attention, you’re most likely to run into maggots. The bad news is that high temperatures and humidity create the perfect conditions for maggots, but the good news is our product "BioButler" is going to solve this problem.

Evidence: Waste disposal is becoming increasingly expensive and challenging. Currently, organic food scraps and garden waste make up 20-30 % of what we throw away. That's a lot, isn’t it?

    Cheers, Regina

HI CHRISTiAN, HERE ARE MY COMMENTS:

    (Evidence)
The sales statistics prove that our product is leading on the market. I THINK YOU COULD MAKE THIS EVEN STRONGER - BY ADDING ANOTHER SENTENCE OR USING STRONGER LANGUAGE ...

    (Emotive language)
Our motivation is to improve the well-being of the human race. FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THIS IS NOT VERY EMOTIONAL - HOW COULD YOU IMPROVE THIS SENTENCE TO CREATE MORE IMPACT?

The bad news is that high temperatures and humidity create the perfect conditions for maggots, but the good news is THAT our product "BioButler" is going to solve this problem. GOOD, ALTHOUGH WHEN TELLING ANECDOTES, YOU USUALLY INFORM YOUR AUDIENCE ABOUT AN EXPERIENCE YOUR PERSONALLY HAD IN THE PAST: LAST SUMMER THERE WERE A LOT OF MAGGOTS IN MY GARBAGE CAN (AND THEN YOU CAN DESCRIBE HOW AWFUL THIS WAS FOR YOU).

Evidence: Waste disposal is becoming increasingly expensive and challenging. Currently, organic food scraps and garden waste make up 20-30 % of what we throw away. That's a lot, isn’t it? VERY NICE - AND THEN OF COURSE; WE NEED THE LINK TO YOUR PRODUCT ...

When I think of all the plastic waste in the oceans, our innovative solution is urgently needed. THAT´S A BIT VAGUE AND NOT REALLY AN ANECDOTE. AN ANECDOTE WOULD BE: I WENT TO THE MALDIVES LAST SUMMER AND WHEN I WAS SWIMMING IN THE SEA, SUDDENLY SOMETHING TOUCHED MY FOOT. I LOOKED BACK AND A RING OF PLASTIC WAS WRAPPED AROUND MY ANKLE ... (SOMETHING LIKE THIS, YOU CAN EVEN USE THE ANECDOTE TECHNIQUE TO CREATE SOME TENSION :-))

    (Evidence)
According to latest studies, by 2050 there will be more plastic waste than fish in the oceans. That's really shocking, isn't it? IT IS! AND THEN OF COURSE WE NEED A LINK TO YOUR PRODUCT!

    Rhetorical questions:
As we all know we need to cut down on social contacts due to the Corona Crisis now. The world changed due to a minimal size virus in very short time and we have found out that humans are more vulnerable as we thought we might be.

So what would happen to mankind, if nature strikes back and there would be a huge meteor strikes our pretty little world?
Would you know what to do?

We thought about the most likeliest catastrophes of our days and invented the most effective energy ring for all kind of catastrophes. You just need to put it around your house, and you will survive any catastrophe. As you might know viennas hospital disposes of one energy ring of our competitors, but that expensive ring is not even able to defend us from Corona.
So we would strongly recommend to install our new enery ring to safe the world....
